Overview & Highlights

Nestled discreetly on 12 Impasse Berthaud in Paris’s vibrant 3rd arrondissement, Le Hangar is a true gem for lovers of authentic French cuisine seeking a cozy yet unpretentious dining experience. This intimate French restaurant effortlessly balances rustic charm with refined cooking, making it a favorite spot for both locals and discerning travelers.

The menu at Le Hangar shines brightest through its masterfully crafted dishes, each evoking classic French flavors with a fresh, modern twist. One standout, repeatedly praised by patrons, is the beef stroganoff. Imagine tender, succulent beef enveloped in a rich, velvety sauce that’s perfectly seasoned—so good that diners often “clean up the whole plate,” as one happy guest shared. Complemented by expertly grilled potatoes, this dish is a hearty, homey delight that’s both comforting and elegant.

Beyond the stroganoff, Le Hangar’s offerings include delicate sea bass served alongside fennel that melts in the mouth, flavorful shrimp paired with pasta, and savory chicken supreme dishes that satisfy without overwhelming. Starters like fresh burrata paired with vibrant tomatoes drizzled in olive oil and basil bring bright, creamy notes that awaken the palate. Soups such as the slightly sweet but deeply flavorful squash and creamy lentil varieties add warmth and comfort, setting the tone for a memorable meal.

Dessert lovers are not forgotten here—orange crepes in Grand Marnier boast a perfect balance of citrus brightness and subtle sweetness, delivering a refined end to the culinary journey. A glass of the house red wine beautifully complements the meal, adding depth and a pleasant roundness to the flavors.

The atmosphere at Le Hangar is quietly enchanting. Tucked away from bustling streets, this secluded spot offers a peaceful refuge, perfect for intimate dinners or family gatherings alike. Guests enjoy seating both inside and outside, with lovely evenings best spent alfresco, soaking in the relaxed vibe. The proprietress's warm and welcoming nature adds a personal touch to every visit, making diners feel truly at home.

While the neighborhood is described by some as less polished, and the alleyway location might catch the attention of the occasional pigeon or passerby, these minor quibbles fade once you step inside. The attentive service, outstanding food, and inviting ambiance overshadow any external distractions, creating an experience worth seeking out.

Whether you are savoring a weekday lunch or indulging in a leisurely dinner, Le Hangar proves that great French food doesn’t need pomp to impress. Its combination of authentic flavors, reasonable pricing, and genuine hospitality make it a quietly brilliant addition to the Paris culinary scene, rewarding those who venture off the beaten path with delicious memories and a warm welcome.

Weekday lunch for one in jun24. Pros: friendly; amazing food, esp beef stogonoff, good prices. Cons: the neighbourhood isn’t great and the backstreet location has pigeons and tramps.

We were there on 10th Jun 2025. The best food with great price for our Paris trip. We ordered 2 sets of beef strogonoff as the sause was so great that we "cleaned up" the whole plate!!!

Secluded restaurant away from the noise. Wonderful food and service. They were able to easily seat a family of 7. Recommend the shrimp and pasta as well as the chicken supreme.

A wonderful meal and the service was excellent! We arrived as they opened and were given a table though we did not have a reservation. The food was excellent, fresh and made to order. The squash soup was flavourful and slightly sweet but in a good way. I had the stroganoff with grilled potatoes for my main dish which was savory and dlicious! Orange crepes for dessert and a glass of house red wine. Cannot say enough good things about this dinner, the staff's friendly service and the overall experience! Highly reccommend you try this restaurant.

So wonderful. I had the mozzarella & tomatoes in olive oil & basil to start, and it was amazing; the entre was sea bass in fennel and it was delicate and flak Dessert was the orange crepes in grand manier. So fabulous! Sorry, I ate the fish too fast for a photo.

We were looking for a nice quiet classic French dinner, and Le Hangar delivered. They seated us outside where it was a lovely evening. The proprietress was warm and welcoming. The tomatoes with fresh burrata salad was excellent. The creamy lentil soup was delicious. The beef tenderloin and potatoes were all so tasty. Highly recommend this lovely restaurant.

This restaurant is out of the way so if you don't know it's there, you will not see it. But nonetheless, people know about it, and it doesn't stay empty. I found out about it by reading google map reviews of restaurants with good ratings. This appears to be a family owned restaurant with great food and wonderful service. I visited this restaurant for lunch, and ordered a glass of red wine, cream of lentil soup with foie gras, beef stroganoff and chocolate souffle. The food totally exceeded my expectations. I read in the reviews that beef stroganoff was good, and it was, but the highlight of the meal for me was the soup. I don't think I have ever eaten a better lentil soup. This will definitely be a place to visit for me when I'm back in Paris. I absolutely highly recommend it.
